England: Devon

DEVON. In Devon, as in many other English counties, the initials of the former water boards are often to be found on the inspection covers. Those normally to be found in Devon are:
  • EDWB: East Devon Water Board, established by 1951
  • NDWB: North Devon Water Board, established in 1945
  • SDWB: South Devon Water Board, established in about 1950
  • SWDWB: South West Devon Water Board, established about 1962
The precise dates are to be ascertained. All were replaced by the South West Water Authority in 1974.
