DEVON. In Devon, as in many other English counties, the initials of the former water boards are often to be found on the inspection covers. Those normally to be found in Devon are:

EDWB: East Devon Water Board, established by 1951
NDWB: North Devon Water Board, established in 1945
SDWB: South Devon Water Board, established in about 1950
SWDWB: South West Devon Water Board, established about 1962

The precise dates are to be ascertained. All were replaced by the South West Water Authority in 1974.
